Postgraduate Master's Degree
'International Master of Cardiology and Techniques Applied to Cardiac Surgery'
Since 2021, students of the IHS has the possibility to participate in the II level University Master's degree titled ‘International Master of Cardiology and Techniques Applied to Cardiac Surgery.
The objectives of the Second-Level University Master's degree align with those of IHS and take into account the importance of extending the Master's to European and non-European students, to facilitate cultural and scientific exchange between students and lecturers.
If admitted, attendance at the Master’s programme is compulsory. Upon demonstrating attendance of 75% or more of the programme’s teaching hours and passing the required assessments, students will be awarded 60 ECTS credits, corresponding to 1,500 hours of total study.

The Master's Educational Regulations
Cardiothoracic surgery is a specialist branch that has made rapid and significant advances over the last forty years. This now allows for the successful treatment of cardiac pathologies that a few decades ago were considered untreatable or on which intervention was attempted with poor results. This evolution has equally affected all areas of cardiothoracic surgery, as well as those of branches that have developed alongside it, particularly cardioanaesthesia and interventional cardiology. Today, within the scope of adult cardiac pathologies, the branch of heart transplantation, that of ventricular assist devices, and last but not least, the treatment of congenital heart defects, represent the three main areas of cardiothoracic surgery.
The course aims to provide students with specific training in the fields of cardiac surgery, cardiology, and cardiac anaesthesia, with particular attention to complex pathologies affecting adults (surgery for heart failure, heart transplantation, ventricular assist devices, ECMO, mitral valve surgery, aortic valve surgery, thoracic aorta surgery) and children (congenital cyanotic and non-cyanotic pathologies, transplantation and ventricular assist devices, ECMO). Furthermore, the anaesthesiological and cardiological approach to the aforementioned pathologies will also play a leading role in the Second Level Master's degree.
AGREEMENTS WITH INSTITUTIONS
International Heart School is developing a project with roots in the reality that has become established in Bergamo and its Hospital over the last thirty years.
During this long period, Bergamo has remained in constant contact with the most prestigious International Centres specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
